Abstract
Four quaternary dibenzopyrrocoline alkaloids were isolated from the Neocaledonian Lauraceae Cryptocaryaphyllostemon and C. oubatchensis. Two of them were identified as cryptowoline and cryptaustoline, the only natural representatives of this structural type known up to now. The other two are new products and have been named cryptowolinol and cryptowolidine; their structures were elucidated, and synthesis of cryptowolidine was perfomed. An original feature of cryptowolinol is the unusual presence of an alcoholic hydroxyl on the benzylic carbon; its putative biogenetic origin is discussed. Keywords: Cryptocarya, Lauraceae, dibenzopyrrocoline alkaloids.
