Abstract
Experimental M2 and E3 radiation widths for the 2.82 MeV level in 39K are obtained from available data and compared with theoretical predictions. It is shown that a large collective octupole admixture is not necessary to reproduce the E3 width and an inhibited M2 width is indicated, which is most likely due to the presence of 2 particle–3 hole components in the ground-state wave function.
