Helminths of Bonaparte's gulls, Larus Philadelphia, from Cooking Lake, Alberta

Abstract

Thirty-three Bonaparte's gulls (Larus Philadelphia) from Cooking Lake, Alberta, were examined for helminths during the fall of 1969. Seven species of helminths were recovered: one trematode, Diplostomum spathaceum; three cestodes, Lateriporus clerci, L. mathevossianae (immature), and Schistocephalus solidus; and three acanthocephalans, Polymorphus contortus, P. marilis, and P. paradoxus (all immature). All are new host records. Lateriporus clerci was the most abundant helminth, and the only one present in all of the gulls.
