Abstract
The sensitivity of scattering cross sections and dilute gas properties to the interatomic potential energy is determined directly for low reduced mass van der Waals interactions. The results are used to develop the most fruitful multiproperty fitting procedure for extracting reliable pair potentials. Error bounds can be estimated for the potentials thus obtained.
