Abstract
By calculation of the classical Newton-Lorentzequation and neglecting the radiation reaction, we find that when anelectron is scattered by an intense continuous monochromatic laser beam (Q equiv eE/(mcwc) > 0.1 in the interaction region), there can benot only momentum transfer but also noticeable energy transfer between thefree electrons and the laser beam. This kind of inelastic effect comes fromnonlinear Compton scattering.PACS Nos.: 42.50Vk and 42.50 Hz
