Abstract
Chlorogenic acid was identified as a constituent of castor bean pomace and of orange pulp by paper chromatography, by infrared and ultraviolet spectrophotometry, and by an immunological cross-neutralization technique. A new extraction and concentration procedure is described which facilitates the identification of small amounts of chlorogenic acid in plant materials. The significance of the results is discussed in relation to the known allergenic activity of chlorogenic acid.
