Rydberg series in the arc spectrum of antimony

Abstract

The absorption spectrum of antimony vapour produced by the flash discharge of SbF5 vapour was photographed in the region 1320–1700 Å (1 Å = 10−10 m) by means of a 10 m vacuum spectrograph. Of a total of 302 absorption lines observed, 203 were classified into 11 Rydberg series, two of which are autoionized. Four of the series have not been previously reported, and a total of 142 new lines are added to the previous analyses. The ionization limits for the 3P multiplet of Sb II were also refined.
