Fungi associated with subcrown internodes of wheat (Triticum aestivum)

Abstract

Bipolaris sorokiniana was isolated, using a low nutrient medium, from about 80% of over 30 000subcrown internodes of wheat plants grown in 1971 and 1972. In 1972, almost 60% of the internodes rated "clean" yielded B. sorokiniana. There was little evidence of any antagonism between other groups of fungi isolated and B. sorokiniana. It is concluded that B. sorokiniana is a very successful parasite.
