Redescription of Lernaeopoda oviformis Shiino, 1956 (Copepoda: Lernaeopodidae), a parasite of the shortspine spurdog (Squalus mitsukurii Jordan and Snyder, 1903), and hitherto covert member of Albionella Kabata, 1979

Abstract

Lernaeopoda oviformis Shiino, 1956 (Lernaeopodidae: Siphonostomatoida: Copepoda), a parasite of the shortspine spurdog (Squalus mitsukurii Jordan and Snyder, 1903), is redescribed from the holotype. Based on the presence of a maxilliped claw with one secondary denticle and a first maxilla exopod bearing three setae, the species is transferred to the genus Albionella Kabata, 1979.
