Abstract
Ethanolamine-1,2-14C was oxidized to14CO2by tissue slices from carrots, onions, beets, turnips, parsnips, radishes, pea seedlings, wheat seedlings, corn seedlings, and oat seedlings. A monoamine oxidase from spinach, beet, and bean leaves which catalyzed the oxidation of ethanolamine to glycolaldehyde was partially characterized. The enzyme catalyzed the oxidation of alkylmonoamines and arylalkylmonoamines but not diamines or N-substituted monoamines, which distinguishes it from previously reported plant amine oxidases.
