Abstract
This first record of one entamoeba within another of the same species is from cultures of E. terrapinae and E. invadens. The possibility that the captive amoeba originated from an ingested cyst is rejected but six other hypotheses are discussed. Attempts to explain the absence to date of all forms of cannibalism in E. moshkovskii are based on the peculiar position of this free-living polysaprobe within a parasitic genus.
