Abstract
The solvated electron yield from the 2537 Å photolysis of aqueous I− containing N2O and SF6 is given by [Formula: see text] with the calculated ratio [Formula: see text] from the 2537 Å photolysis of aqueous Fe(CN)64− was measured using SF6, N2O, and mixtures of N2O and SF6 as the scavengers with the material balance being represented by[Formula: see text]. The average value obtained was [Formula: see text] = 0.67 ± 0.03 and the calculated values of [Formula: see text] were 2.20 ± 0.2 from the product ratio's at low [SF6] and 1.86 ± 0.2 from a competition plot at higher [SF6]. A mechanism is presented describing the specificity of SF6 as a scavenger of eaq−.
