Abstract
Results of laboratory investigations on the application of glass microbead systems to studies on the activity of Penicillium decumbens are presented. The effects of microbead size, temperature, and aeration on CO2 evolution by P. decumbens are discussed. The results indicate that P. decumbens grows actively in nutrient-supplemented glass microbead systems and is tolerant of considerable changes in all the environmental conditions studied. Attempts are made to relate these observations to previously obtained ecological data for the test organism.
