Abstract
Germinal vesicle growth dots not keep pace with amphibian oöcyte enlargement. However, specific size relationships between nuclear volume and oöcyte volume hold for several different species. The nuclear volumes of oöcytes of similar size from Taricha granulosa and Ascaphus truei are nearly equal even though A. truei oöcytes are multinucleate. Nucleoplasmic volume relationships are maintained in A. truei by a reduction in germinal vesicle size.
