Abstract
Several theoretical studies have been made of the various components of the image formed by a magnetic prism-lens. This paper reports experimental measurements of the image formed by a 90 ° sector magnet. The contributions to the image caused by the finite object width, spherical aberration, chromatic aberration, curvature of fringing field lines, oblique rays, detector slit, and detector response time have been verified quantitatively. When account is taken of image alignment, and focusing locus, and when space charge is absent, the measured resolving power of the system verifies theoretical predictions.
