Abstract
Lipolated (fat-filled) mitochondria in Saccharomyces have been observed both by light-microscopy and by electron-microscopy. Previous workers have shown, by ultraviolet-microscopy and by fat stains, using the light-microscope, that the lipolated mitochondria contain both lipids and ribonucleotides. The lipolated mitochondria are in close contact with the vacuolar membrane and presumably mediate the transfer of ribonucleotides from the nucleolus to the cytoplasm while fat supplies the energy for the synthesis of ribonucleoprotein in the mitochondrion.
