Abstract
Calcium and taurine were analyzed from the neurogenic heart and other tissues of Carcinus maenas. The interaction between calcium and taurine was studied in vitro using a potentiometric method. The hypothesis that calcium can modulate flux through the cell membrane as in the mammalian heart as a consequence of a taurine–calcium complex formation is untenable for the heart of C. maenas.
