Abstract
From examination of published data, we find a strong correlation between the "bright-night" phenomenon and meteoritic showers. We show how the N atoms and nitric oxide molecules produced along meteor trails give a continuous emission due to NO2, the enhancement of which is at the origin of bright nights. At the same time the hydroxyl emission is enhanced.
