Abstract
A theoretical study of the effect of diaphragms on the reactions, internal forces, and behaviour of skew box girder bridges was carried out. Three different cases were studied: (1) the traditional skew diaphragms, (2) orthogonal diaphragms, and (3) no diaphragms. The aim of the study was to compare the different cases and to find out whether the easier to construct arrangements (2) and (3) would be viable options for design of skew box girder bridges.
