Abstract
A detailed analysis of the absorbance versus time functional forms of the chemical species in the consecutive two-step unimolecular reaction scheme is presented. Distinguishability of rate constants is discussed with respect to the characterization of growth-decay and decay-growth curves and the rate constant - reaction step ambiguity. A new method based on the functional form of the absorption extremum involving the intermediate B with catalyst concentration is proposed to overcome the problem of rate constant assignments.Key words: reaction mechanism, kinetics analysis, physical organic chemistry.
