Abstract
Large amounts of 6,7-[3H]estrone benzoate were injected into female rabbits, and the double glycoside of 17α-estradiol, which is excreted in the urine after such treatment, was isolated in crystalline form for the first time. The material was converted to its peracetylated 3-methyl ester, the infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of which, as well as the elemental analysis, supported previous evidence that the excreted conjugate was 17α-estradiol-3-β-D-glucuronide-17-β-D-N-acetylglucosaminide. The chromatographic patterns on Sephadex A-25 confirmed that this compound is quantitatively by far the major metabolite of injected estrone in the rabbit.
