Abstract
Theoretical expressions are derived for the absorption intensities of the zero-phonon Wν←0(0), Wν←0(1) single transitions and Wν←0(0) + Qν′←0(0) double transitions in solid hydrogen. From a comparison with available experimental data, the tetra-hexacontapole (64th pole) moment of the hydrogen molecule is estimated to be 0.25 [Formula: see text].
