Abstract
The isolation of carbon atoms 2 and 3 of the α-pyridone nucleus of ricinine is described. Evidence is provided to support the suggestion that succinic acid or a closely related four-carbon dicarboxylic acid provides carbon atoms 2, 3, and 7 in the biosynthesis of the ricinine molecule.
