Abstract
Total photon cross sections for four rare-earth elements, Y, Gd, Dy, and Er, were measured at photon energies of 30.85, 32.1, 36.9, 52, 72.1, 81.0, 84.3, and 145.5 keV using a good geometrical setup and a single-channel scintillation spectrometer. The results of some of the elements are new. The measured total photon cross sections are compared with the theoretical compilations of Storm and Israel and the available data of earlier investigations. The scattering cross sections obtained by interpolation using the values of Hubbell et al. were subtracted from the measured total photon cross sections to obtain the total photoelectric cross sections. The total photoelectric cross sections thus derived are compared with the latest theoretical compilations of Scofield.
