Abstract
Mercury hydride, arising from the Hg(63P0) photosensitized decomposition of hydrogen containing molecules, has been detected in the presence of H2, D2, CH4, C2H6, C3H8, and n-C4H10. For the alkanes, this is the first experimental evidence that HgH is formed in the primary process Hg(63P0) + RH → HgH + R.
