Abstract
The stream-dwelling blacknose dace (Rhinichthys atratulus) required 84 hr to adjust from moderately negative to neutral buoyancy when transferred from running to still water, and 132 hr to adjust from neutral to moderately negative buoyancy when transferred from still to running water. This adjustment was achieved partly by loss or addition of swimbladder gases and partly by altering the pressure of gases within the swimbladder, and accompanied slight changes in swimbladder length.
