Abstract
In the middle North, the majority of culicid species have a circumboreal distribution, 26 species being holarctic. After 5 years of ecological studies done by the author, the results gathered in the boreal, subarctic, and hemiarctic zones of the Quebec–Labrador peninsula are compared with the ecological data published by various authors in North America (Nearctic), Western Europe, Fenno-Scandinavia and overall Eurosiberia (Palearctic). When necessary, these compared analyses are discussed. From this comparison it may be concluded that, quantitatively and qualitatively, holarctic mosquito species are found in homologous species associations and larval breeding sites whatever the middle-northern country concerned. The author has placed particular emphasis on papers published in the last decade by Soviet authors.
