Abstract
Lethal sectoring was studied after mutagenic treatment of the haploid fission yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe, with three different chemical mutagens and with UV light. The results showed marked differences in the mode of cell inactivation and in the incidence of lethal sectoring, implying that different inactivating mechanisms operate after the different mutagenic treatments. The data are discussed as they relate to the possible causes of lethal sectoring and the reasons why mutagenic treatments yield both complete and sectored mutant colonies.
