Abstract
K–Ar and Rb–Sr dates ranging from 101 ± 2 to 158 ± 6 Ma are reviewed to arrive at an absolute minimum age of 115–119 Ma and probable age of 125 ± 5 Ma for the Axelgold Gabbro, consistent with geologic evidence. The magnetization, with blocking temperature of 500–600 °C, was almost certainly acquired between these limits. The result provides an important constraint on the determination of the paleolatitudinal displacement of the Axelgold Gabbro with respect to the craton and supports the earlier contention of Monger and Irving that post-mid-Cretaceous displacement from the south was in excess of 1000 km.
