Abstract
Reduction by LiAlH4, LiAlH (OtBu)3, lithium tetrakis-(N-dehydropyridil)aluminate (LDPA), and NaBH4 of several 3-benzylidene camphors have been studied. The relative amounts of the 1:2 vs. 1:4 addition are determined. The results obtained are discussed with respect to the nature of reductive species, solvents, and withdrawing and repulsive effects of the aromatic ring substituents.
