Abstract
An open bud mutant phenotype was recovered in the transference of the yellow petal (Y2) gene from Gossypium darwinii to G. hirsutum. The open bud mutant is allelic to the open bud (ob1) mutant in G. hirsutum. By the induction and use of monotelodisomes it was shown that the open bud and yellow petal genes are located, respectively, on the short and long arms of chromosome 18. The ob1 gene is 3.4 and the Y2 gene is 8 map units from the centromere; thus the two loci are at least 11 map units apart.Key words: monosome, telosome, linkage, Gossypium mutants.
