Abstract
Protoplasts from soybean cell cultures were fused with those from pea mesophyll by treatment with polyethylene glycol. After fusion about 20% of the cells were heterokaryons. Differential staining indicated that most of the heterokaryons contained one or two nuclei of each parent. Fusion of heterospecific nuclei during interphase appeared as an alternate way to the formation of hybrid cells.
