Abstract
The trehalase activity of whole haemolymph of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana, was compared with that of serum (whole haemolymph from which clotting factors have been removed). The activity of serum trehalase exceeds that of whole haemolymph when insects are in an excited state, but the ratio of serum trehalase to whole-haemolymph trehalase is reversed in rested insects.
