Abstract
The primary photochemical step occurring in solid H2S, D2S, or H2S2 was shown to be loss of a hydrogen or deuterium atom. Electron spin resonance spectra are assigned to HS, DS, and HS2, which have not previously been detected in the solid phase, and behavior of these radicals on warming the samples is described. When H2S and D2S matrices were warmed from 77 to 125 °K, the HS and DS spectra collapsed into a doublet and singlet respectively. The hyperfine splitting in HS increased and both signals appeared at lower average g-values than when anisotropically broadened at 77 °K.
