SOME BASE-CATALYZED CONDENSATIONS OF SYSTEMS OF THE FORM R1R2C=C(CN)2

Abstract

We have investigated the condensations of the systems [Formula: see text] and CH3HC=C(CN)2 in the presence of organic bases. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) spectral evidence is presented in support of the suggested structures of the condensation products, and an attempt has been made to present diagrammatically the interrelation between these condensations and other known reaction pathways for condensations of this type.
