Abstract
The particle detectors in the Alouette satellite have been used to obtain time-averaged intensity distributions for the particles in the outer radiation zone at an altitude of 1000 km. Average intensities of protons in the energy range 1–7 Mev and electrons with energies greater than 40 kev, 250 kev, and 3.9 Mev have been obtained as a function of the invariant latitude, the particle pitch angle, and magnetic activity as determined by the Kp index. Some of the measurements are compared with ground-based measurements of auroral radio-absorption.
