An Analysis of Influencing Factors of Regular Physical Activities between Fitness Participation Types: Focus on Bodybuilding and Yoga

Abstract

Objectives: Fitness activity is becoming more differentiated and individualized compared to legacy sports. Therefore, using the data from participants in bodybuilding and yoga, in this study, we analyzed the differences of influencing factors affecting on recognition of physical activities as well as the characteristics of the participants in the activities. Methods: Data from this study originated from the National Leisure Activities Survey of Korea 2021. We used a chi-square test and hierarchical regression analysis for examination of data. There were 987 adults aged 20 or older who were participated in bodybuilding (N=619) or yoga (N=368) on a regular basis. Results: Bodybuilding attracted men and single people, whereas yoga attracted women and married people. We also found that bodybuilding and yoga participants showed differences in terms of the relative influence of the factors affecting the outcomes of physical activities. Conclusion: These findings are relevant to the need for different activation approaches for different market segments of bodybuilding and yoga.
