Abstract
Objectives: Emotional intelligence is the ability of an individual to manage emotions and facilitate thinking. Emotional intelligence can also affect psychological and behavioral aspects of individuals. This study investigated the role of emotional intelligence of university
students in defining their mental health and psychological well-being with the moderation of perceived social support. Methods: A quantitative research methodology with a sample size of 267 university students in China was used for collecting data through a questionnaire. SPSS program
was used for data analysis and to incorporate linear regression analysis for evaluating the significance between variables. Results: The result of the regression analysis revealed that emotional intelligence had a significant impact on the psychological well-being and mental well-being.
Conclusion: The analysis of the study disclosed that the moderation of perceived social support was significant for the direct relationship between emotional intelligence on the psychological well-being. However, the moderation was insignificant on the relationship between emotional
intelligence and mental health. In the last sections of the study, the study pointed out limitations, significance, and the potential for future research.
