Abstract
Abstract
This study presents a case where a decision was made to replace a seemingly functional Gas Lift valve. Despite its apparent functionality after 15 years of operation, the valve exhibited signs of degradation, potentially compromising the well's production stability. The study was conducted through multiphase flow simulations, risk analyzes and investigations of historical events. The occurrence of a complete valve blockage, which was successfully resolved by implementing a pressure oscillation procedure, led to a revision of the risk analysis. As a result, the team recommended proceeding with the intervention, which was subsequently approved by management. Post valve replacement, an increase in injected flow was observed, even at lower injection pressures. This resulted in stable production and generated an initial additional revenue exceeding $1.75 million per month. This event exemplifies the advantages of proactive offshore interventions in deep waters to replace Gas Lift valves, even before equipment failure. Despite the high costs associated with such interventions, they can yield significant short-term gains.
