Abstract

ObjectiveThrough innovative advances in video technology and image processing techniques, a 360-degree quantified imaging of the wellbore can now be acquired in a single continuous pass. Not only does this enable simplified, cost-effective intervention by significantly reducing the time required for acquisition, but the innovation also extends the application of video to a wider range of diagnostic and evaluative applications. This information can then be combined with other downhole datasets across the well. These easily understood datasets provide immediate understanding of complex downhole situations. This information is used to identify and understand problems relating to perforation analysis, restrictions, leaks, corrosion, the condition and functional status of valves, along with numerous other undesirable downhole conditions. This paper will demonstrate how the added efficiency, as well as the improved extended visual datasets acquired, provide a more comprehensive understanding of specific challenges, resulting in reducing operational time, risk and cost, and empowering improved decision-making to enable decisive action and enhanced productivity.Method/ProcedureThis paper will use real-world examples to demonstrate how the application of visual analysis, quantitative measurements and 2D/3D modelling allows the improvement of intervention operations. A four-stage workflow will be described, detailing:Acquisitiondetailing how the unique 360-degree sideview footage, combined with downview footage, was attained and how it allowed the complete wellbore conditions to be assessed with specific issues identified.Analysisutilizing interactive reporting platforms to render quantitative visuals, 2D and 3D models as well as combining the visuals with other downhole datasets in novel deliverables.Valueassessment of the overall value of the operation, which includes the reduction in rig time due to efficiency improvements as well as the conclusions reached by the answers provided.ResultsThe paper will show how the 360-degree footage of the wellbores aided in better understanding of specific downhole challenges. Additionally, we will demonstrate how the technology was able to diagnose downhole conditions that would not otherwise be possible with conventional datasets. Each example will provide specific insights into the technical capabilities and the varied deliverables that were obtained. These examples will showcase the efficiency improvement realized in the course of these well intervention operations undertaken while providing diagnostic solutions that improve well performance.Uniqueness/NoveltyThe techniques described in this paper involve the application of the world's first ultra-HD array side-view camera, providing complete visual wellbore coverage. Combined with a bespoke data analysis and visualization suite, intuitive and interactive log, 2D and 3D deliverables are provided. Critically, it provides production and well intervention engineers with indisputable answers which allow them to effectively plan and execute remedial well interventions to successfully overcome a range of wellbore challenges.
