Abstract
Abstract
Asphaltene deposition reduces oil productivity in afflicted wells and- in worst case- stops the wells from flowing due to complete plugging as a result of deposition inside the tubing. Currently, wellbore soaking and wire-line clean-up jobs are implemented to deal with asphaltene deposition. However, these operations are frequent and asphaltene continues to deposit shortly after.
Three methods are currently being evaluated to control asphaltene deposition: Control of operating conditions, inhibitor squeeze treatment and continuous down hole inhibitor injection. This paper discusses the results of evaluating control of operating conditions and the preparatory work required to evaluate the latter two methods.
