Abstract
Summary
A patented roller-cone bit that combines the conventional drilling mechanics of a roller-cone bit with the shearing action of polycrystalline diamond (PDC) cutting elements to trim gage has been developed.1 This paper reviews design features of the bits, laboratory tests demonstrating the shearing action, and presents case studies of bits with the shear-cutting PDC-gage elements.
