Abstract
The article deals with the artistic technique of the émigré writer V. S. Yanovsky (1906–1989) and the extent to which it was infl uenced by his medical education and medical practice. Apart from biographical reasons, literary trends of the interwar period seem to account for the medical themes and plots in his prose. For the fi rst time ever, the article focuses on the book Medicine, Science and Life (1978), where Yanovsky tries to create a syncretic philosophical theory, based on his writing and medical experiences.
