Generation of indistinguishable single photons with nanosecond laser pulses

Abstract

We investigate the generation of single photons from a single trapped 40Ca+ ion via nanosecond laser pulses, resulting in an increased photon indistinguishability for pulselengths in the order of the excited state lifetime.
