Abstract
In this study, we theoretically investigate the coupling efficiency of tapered diode lasers to single-mode fibers in four different coupling systems using an astigmatic beam propagation algorithm. The fast-axis lens and slow-axis lens have been used to mitigate astigmatism, which is a characteristic of the tapered diode laser and then the beam coupling into different single-mode fibers. Designers should carefully balance the pursuit of high coupling efficiency with the need to minimize astigmatism sensitivity in the design of coupling systems.
