Abstract
The optical performance can be evaluated by measuring the line-spread function[1,2], the point spread function[3], or the aberrations of the eye. The measurement of the wave aberrations of the eye has been attracting sustained interest over the last hundred years[4-7]. Recent demand for a fast and precise measurement of the aberrations of the eye in order to adaptively improve the performance of a Laser Tomographic Scanner[8] lead to the development of a new technique applying a Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor[9,10]. This newly devoloped technique has the following advantages: (1) the test can be done in real-time and the measurement can be analysed automatically. (2) the repeatability and precision of the measurement can be very high. In this report, we will present an evaluation of the optical performance of the eye based on the precise measurements of the aberrations of the eye.
