Abstract
Dynamic performances are critical for most imaging system applications. Among the various components of an imaging system, it can be shown that the display devices have the largest dynamic effect. Therefore, it is important to calculate or test the dynamic performance of display devices. The dynamic modulation transfer function (DMTF)1 is the most important of all dynamic performance measures. Therefore, testing the DMTF of display devices should be the first task in evaluating an imaging system. However, the existing experimental setup for determining DMTF involves a flashing light source of infinitesimal time interval for generating the temporal delta function. In practice, such an ideal source, especially the thermal source required by the test system for infrared imaging systems, does not exist.2 To overcome the aforementioned limitation, we propose a practical test system that does not require a flashing light source for measuring the DMTF. Simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
