Abstract
Detailed knowledge of refractive indices is usually required for precise coating applications, such as in optical systems, optoelectronic devices or integrated optics. In all-optical waveguide switches, for example, it was shown that small index inhomogeneities can lead to relevant degradation of device performance.[1] In addition, proximity to an interface may significantly modify the refractive index of a coating,[2] including the appearance of a second-order nonlinear component in centrosymmetric materials.[3]
