Abstract
Congenital eye disorders are an important cause of childhood blindness. They can be due to defective development of ocular tissues during the intrauterine life, which can result from adverse genetic, environmental factors, teratogens, or chromosomal anomalies in the developing embryo. We report three such cases with congenital retinal disorders where even surgical intervention would result in a poor visual outcome. Preconceptional genetic counseling of prospective parents can maximize the chances of the couple having a healthy baby. Premarital counseling for consanguinity and screening for carriers of genetic diseases can help prevent many congenital diseases. Proper diagnosis and early intervention may provide a favourable outcome.
