Abstract

ABSTRACT Dextrocardia can be associated with situs inversus and other cyanotic and acyanotic congenital heart diseases. Although the true incidence is difficult to ascertain. Situs inversus totalis is the complete reversal of the position of the viscera in the abdominal and thoracic cavities. It is rare and commonly associated with congenital heart disease. Complicated cardiac malformation like this when associated with brain abscess poses several challenges to the anesthetist due to the altered hemodynamics and increased intracranial tension and warrant a meticulous anesthetic and surgical plan. We report a case of situs inversus totalis complicated by cerebral abscess in a tertiary care center.
